Shehu Sani Reacts As Tinubu Govt Plans To Purchase N5 Billion Presidential Yacht

Former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has opined that it is time to consider why democracies fail in African countries.

Naija News recall that the current coup plotters in Niger Republic had blamed rising insecurity and a lack of economic growth, stating that the intervention was necessary to avoid the gradual and inevitable demise of the country.

However, in the case of Gabon, the military blamed the alleged fraudulent election that produced Ali Bongo as president.

Speaking on behalf of the Gabonese people, the military officers expressed their determination to safeguard peace by ending the current regime that has lasted over 40 years.

In a post via Twitter, Shehu Sani said it is time to stop asking why military coups are succeeding in Africa and focus on why democracies are failing.

The former lawmaker expressed surprise at how the Gabonese stormed the streets and danced in excitement over the coup.

Sani added that Ali Bong’s family dominated and destroyed democracy, adding thaf democracies die in Africa whenever elections are poisoned.

He tweeted, “It’s time we stop asking why are military coups succeeding in Africa and start asking why democracies are failing in Africa. A BBC correspondent just reported people in Gabon are “genuinely” trooping out to the streets in support of the Coup in Libreville

“The Bongo family dominated and destroyed Democracy. Democracy dies in Africa when elections are poisoned.”
