Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has described Nigerian striker, Victor Boniface as a real problem to defenders in the German Bundesliga.

Victor Boniface joined Leverkusen this summer from Royale Union Saint-Gilloise for a transfer fee worth €20 million.

Since he arrived at the club, Boniface has enjoyed an incredible start to his Bayer Leverkusen career, scoring three goals and dishing out one assist in three appearances.

The 22-year-old scored twice as Bayer Leverkusen overcame Borussia Monchengladbach 3-0 at Borussia Park on Saturday in a Rhine derby game.

In the Europa League last season, Boniface showed his skill at the greatest level for Saint-Gilloise by scoring against his current team in the quarterfinals. He recorded two goals and two assists in four games during the group stage and round of 16.

Victor Boniface finished the 2022–2023 UEFA Europa League season with six goals in ten games, the same number of goals as Marcus Rashford of Manchester United.

In an interview with Bundesliga.com, Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso lauded the qualities of the Nigeria international and how selfless the youngster has been since he joined his team.

The Liverpool legend said, “Victor’s a real problem for opposition defenses. He’s powerful, quick, and makes runs from deep. He has a good mentality and works for the team, not for himself.”
