Tobi Amusan who is currently the world champion and record holder of the 100m women’s hurdles has qualified for the semi-finals of the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

The 26-year-old record-breaking athlete did not only qualify for the semi-finals of the women’s 100m hurdles, she won the heat 5, to get closer to successfully defending her world title.

In the fiercely contested heat at the National Athletics Centre in Budapest, Hungary, Tobi Amusan ran a quick 12.48s (0.4) to take the heat.

Toward the end of the final heat, the Ogun-state-born athlete seemed to have slowed down a bit but she maintained her composure to win the race as anticipated.

Megan Tapper from Jamaica was her closest competitor in the race as she ran 12.51s to finish second in the keenly contested heat.

While Australian Michelle Jennek gave a very good account of herself as she ran 12.71s to finish third.

All eyes are on Tobi Amusan to see how she would defend the 100-meter hurdles World Championships which she won in Oregon, the USA last year by breaking the 12.20 seconds record set by Kendra Harrison in 2016.

Pundits are also anticipating that she would break her own wind-aided 12.06 seconds record she set in the 2022 edition of the competition.

Recall that Tobi Amusan almost missed the Championship in Budapest due to a doping scandal but she was cleared to compete at the tournament about a week before the commencement of the tournament.
