Why Players Are Choosing Chelsea Over Liverpool, Other Clubs

Chelsea have finally won the race to sign Ecuadorian midfielder Moisés Caicedo from Brighton after a lengthy transfer tussle.

The West London club and Brighton have reached an agreement which would see Chelsea pay a British record transfer fee for the Ecuadorian defensive midfielder.

Naija News gathered that Chelsea will pay a whopping £115 million to complete the acquisition of Moisés Caicedo this summer.

Before now, The Blues have made a series of bids to convince Brighton to sell the highly sought-after midfielder but The Seagulls turned down the bids demanding a fee higher than £100 million.

Days ago, Chelsea almost missed the opportunity of signing Caicedo when Liverpool came into the picture with a bid worth a record £110 million.

As expected, Brighton accepted the offer which naturally should have signified the end of the bidding saga for The Blues.

However, Moisés Caicedo told Liverpool not to bother negotiating with him because he has already made up his mind to join Chelsea.

Caicedo’s position is said to be because he has reached an agreement on personal terms with Chelsea since May and he wanted to honour the agreement even though The Blues were yet to reach an agreement with Brighton.

The fact that Caicedo turned down Liverpool’s generous bid, pushed Chelsea to make a more generous bid to The Seagulls which the side have finally accepted.

According to transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have agreed to include a sell-on clause for Brighton in the British record transfer deal worth £115 million which is a big win for The Seagulls.

Moisés Caicedo will now sign an eight-year deal with Chelsea which will keep him at the club until June 30, 2031, with an option for a one-year extension.

Caicedo is expected in London for his medical examination this week and the deal is expected to be completed before Chelsea take on West Ham United at 16:30 on Wednesday, August 20.
