The 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 election, Omoyele Sowore, has condemned the continued detention of the suspended Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, by the Department of State Services (DSS).

In a tweet via his verified Twitter handle on Friday, Sowore said the continued detention of Bawa for months without arraignment in court smacks of political persecution.

The human rights activist described the suspended EFCC boss as a political detainee and called on President Bola Tinubu to release him without any further delay.

He wrote: “It is now obvious that suspended Chairman Abdulrasheed Bawa of @officialEFCC is now a political detainee. His prolonged detention by the lawless @OfficialDSSNG for such a prolonged period without charges smacks of political persecution. @officialABAT must release Bawa without further delay.

Recall that President Tinubu had suspended Bawa from office over corruption allegations and abuse of office and was detained in DSS facility afterwards.

It was learned that  Bawa was taken from the headquarters of the secret police to a private facility to have total control over him after he refused to write any statements in custody.

The suspended EFCC boss has been in prolonged detention since his suspension.
