Sowore Reacts As President Tinubu Appoints UI Student As Member Of Tax Reforms Committee

A human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has reacted to the appointment of a 400-level Economics student of the University of Ibadan (UI), Orire Agbaje, as a member of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms.

Agbaje and other members of the Committee, headed by a tax and fiscal policy expert, Taiwo Oyedele, were inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday.

Naija News reports that Agbaje is the President of The Tax Club, University of Ibadan (UI), and also the President of the Nigerian Universities Tax Club.

Reacting via a Twitter post on Wednesday, Sowore slammed Nigerians who are upset over her appointment as a member of the Tax reforms committee because she is an undergraduate.

The human rights activist said many Nigerians now know that Agbaje is a student and know her school, course of study and level as opposed to most of the politicians running the nation.

Sowore also said Nigerians don’t know the names of schools or courses of study of most Nigerian Senators, President Tinubu and many of his newly appointed ministers.

He wrote: “Read somewhere this lady here with @officialABAT was appointed to a “Tax Committee”, and some are upset that an ordinary student was given an appointment, well, unlike so many Senators, even the “President” and recently so many of his (@officialABAT) ministers, we at least know this young lady is in school and we know her school, course of study and level as opposed to most of the politicians running Nigeria today, no one could truly tell you where they went to school. Most of them don’t have “level”.”
