Gunmen Kidnap First Class Chief, Wife In Nasarawa

Some unknown gunmen have reportedly kidnapped a first-class traditional ruler in Nasarawa State, the Emir of Gurku, Jibrin Mohammed.

Reports obtained by Naija News on Monday morning revealed that the chief and his wife were whisked away from the palace located a few kilometres from the Mararraba main town of Karu Local Government Area on Sunday night.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, told journalists that a combined Police team in collaboration with vigilante groups combed the surrounding bushes of the area after receiving a distress call but no trace of the abductees.

Efforts to rescue the Emir and his wife are ongoing as additional police personnel from the Police Tactical Team, Anti-Kidnapping Unit, and others from the Karu Area Command have been deployed to the area, Channels quoted the police spokesperson as saying.

Adamawa: Female Soldier Guns Down Captain

Meanwhile, in Yola, the capital of Adamawa state, a female soldier identified as Lance Corporal Nkiru shot and killed a captain.

The deceased was reported to be intervening in her altercation with civilians during a curfew when he was shot.

Naija News understands that Governor Ahmadu Fintiri imposed the curfew after looters targeted government warehouses, taking several items, including those intended to ease the impact of fuel subsidy removal.

Sources that spoke with Daily Trust on the development said the female soldier was insistent that motorists returning home during the curfew must turn back, despite claims of an essential duty.

A security officer said, “Some people stopped at the checkpoint and explained themselves as workers on essential duties but the female soldier insisted they must turn back. A captain came forward to intervene. Unfortunately, she had already cocked her rifle, so she just fired and killed him accidentally.”

The victim was said to have been rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Yola, where he was confirmed dead while the suspect was instantly arrested and whisked away by soldiers.

The female soldier, now arrested, had been repeatedly accused of harassing civilians and cocking her rifle with minimal provocation.
