A judge in Spain has indicted a former FC Barcelona defender, Dani Alves over the sexual assault charges he has been battling within the last seven months.

In December 2022, Dani Alves was arrested and detained on suspicion of raping a woman in a Barcelona nightclub.

Since then, he has been battling to clear his name, regain his freedom and save his marriage which has crashed due to the rape allegation.

But his efforts hit the brick wall earlier today when a Spanish judge declared that she has found evidence that the Brazilian footballer did something wrong.

This is contrary to the argument of Dani Alves who has insisted that he had consensual sexual intercourse with his alleged rape victim. This confession from the 40-year-old legendary footballer came after he denied knowledge of the said victim initially.

Even though Alves insists on being innocent, the out-of-favor Brazil international has made up his mind not to contest the indictment from the judge. Hence, he will allow the judicial process to continue.

After the indictment, Dani Alves’ lawyer, Cristobal Martell said, “Alves is upset with the narrative of the facts. He disagrees with it”.

Now that Dani Alves has been indicted by the judge, the prosecuting council is expected to submit official charges to the court before a trial date can be given.

In Spain, once an accused is convicted of rape, he could be sentenced to four to fifteen years in prison, and it is considered a general sexual assault charge.
