English defender Levi Colwill has finally extended his contract with Chelsea after a back-and-forth over his future.

Levi Colwill who spent last season on loan at Brighton has signed a six-year deal with Chelsea, his childhood club, which will keep him at the club until June 30, 2029. The deal comes with a one-year contract extension option.

While on loan with Brighton last season, the England Under-21 international played in 17 Premier League games and helped the club to qualify for the Europa League.

On Tuesday, the 20-year-old Englishman wrote a farewell letter to Brighton supporters and shared it on Instagram to end the speculation that he could return to the club on a permanent deal this summer.

Levi Colwill started his journey at Chelsea at the age of eight and rose through the Blues’ development system before being loaned to Huddersfield in 2021–2022, where he played 29 Championship games and assisted the team in reaching the play-off final.

Colwill helped the England Under-21 team to win the European Championship for the first time in 39 years this summer following an outstanding loan season at Brighton last season.

After extending his contract with Chelsea on Wednesday, August 2, Levi Colwill said, “It’s always been an easy decision.

“‘As I’ve grown up, all I’ve known is Chelsea. I’ve spoken with the manager [Mauricio Pochettino] and he’s reassured me, that trust I needed.

“He’s spoken with me not just as a player but as a person. It’s made a big difference.”
