'Sad' - Atiku’s Aide Reacts As Nigeria’s Public Debt Hits N87 Trillion

Daniel Bwala, an aide to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has warned President Bola Tinubu to approach the Niger Republic Coup with discretion.

Naija News recalls that the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Authority of Heads of State and Government had given General Abdourahamane Tchiani, the mastermind of the coup in Niger Republic, seven days to return power to Mohammed Bazoum.

The decision formed part of resolutions reached at the emergency meeting of ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, which was held in Abuja on Sunday.

Other resolutions at the end of the meeting included a stern warning that if the coup plotters failed to restore political stability in seven days, ECOWAS might use force.

Speaking on the situation via Twitter, Bwala advised Tinubu, who doubles as the chairman of ECOWAS, against being drawn into a proxy war.

He urged the president to resist the urge to send soldiers to Niger.

The presidential aide sternly warned against using proceeds from the fuel subsidy removal to manage or run the ECOWAS.

He wrote, “Mr President should exercise caution and discretion on the Niger coup and how to approach it. One fact is clear, we don’t want military intervention anywhere in Africa. No matter how imperfect the democracy, we shall force it’s growth through citizenship engagement. PBAT should avoid being drawn into what appears to be a proxy war. The temptation to send soldiers to Niger should be resisted by all means. Peace in Niger is strategic to our national security. Engage through diplomacy; use the power of economic, trade, travel sanctions etc; but avoid militarization of diplomacy. We do not have even soldiers and arms for our own internal and territorial security; proceeds from removal of subsidy must NEVER BE USED TO RUN, OPERATE OR MANAGE ECOWAS. I come in peace”
