The National Security Adviser to President Bola Tinubu, Nuhu Ribadu held a closed-door meeting with Governors from the five South-East states in Abuja on Monday.

While the meeting’s agenda was not disclosed, it is believed to pertain to the escalating security issues in Anambra, Enugu, Abia, Imo, and Ebonyi states.

Last week, the Senate condemned the recurring Monday sit-at-home orders in the South-East and called on the Federal Government to partner with the Finnish Government to extradite pro-Biafran agitator Simon Ekpa for trial.

The Senate is also urging the yet-to-be-appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs and relevant parties to probe this matter and hold accountable other instigators of the act.

Meanwhile, the Senate dismissed a proposal for the release of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, citing sub judice as the issue of his release is still in court.

The illegal sit-at-home orders, reportedly enforced by a fraction of the banned IPOB in the five Southeast states, were first issued in 2021.

The orders were a tactic to demand the release of the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, who is currently held by the Department of State Services (DSS) and facing trial for charges related to terrorism.
