Women’s World Cup: Haiti Out, England Almost Through, Hope For South Africa
The group games that went down today, July 28, in the 2023 Women’s World Cup co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand recorded six goals in three games.
Argentina who seem to be having a terrible run in the 2023 Women’s World came from behind to deny South Africa their first victory at the tournament.
The reigning African Women’s Nations Cup winners were leading Argentina with two unreplied goals until the 74th minute when poor concentration helped the Argentine women to score two goals within just five minutes.
The 2-2 draw means that South Africa are third and Argentina are last in Group G with just a point each in two games.
Both South Africa and Argentina would hope the game between group-leaders Sweden and second-placed Italy end in a draw. Once that happens, the South African team must then beat Italy in their last group game on August 2 and hope Argentina and Sweden draw on the said day.

On the other hand, England are just a point away from qualifying for the next round of the 2023 Women’s World Cup after beating Denmark with just a lone goal.
The win means that England are topping Group D with 6 points in two games, 3 points above second-placed Denmark.
As it stands, all England need to do to qualify for the next round is to draw or beat third-placed China on August 1.
A defeat to England on August 1, and a victory for Denmark over the whipping girls of the group, Haiti, might spell doom for the Lioneesses since both China and Denmark are having three points in two games.
As for China, they kept themselves in the 2023 Women’s World Cup by ensuring that they defeated Haiti who are yet to record a win in the tournament. The 1-0 victory means China must beat in-form England in their last group game to stand a chance of making it out of the group stage.
While Haiti who failed to score a goal and earn a point in two games are already out of the 2023 Women’s World Cup but have to play their last game against Denmark just for pride.
