Court Rejects DSS Suit To Prolong Emefiele’s Detention

An application filed by the Department of State Services (DSS) was dismissed by the Maitama High Court in the Federal Capital Territory.

The DSS sought an additional 14-day detention order for Mr Godwin Emefiele, the suspended former Governor of the Central Bank, based on new evidence they claimed to have found.

The request, which the DSS filed in secret last Thursday, was marked FCT/HC/M/12105/2023 and appeared before vacation judge Justice Hamza Muazu.

The judge dismissed the application, citing it as an abuse of court process and beyond his jurisdiction.

Wase, Betara, Doguwa, Faleke Make List As Abbas Names Standing Committees Chairmen

The immediate past Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Idris Wase and the former Majority leader, Alhassan Doguwa have been named as the Chairmen of two standing Committees.

The Speaker, Tajudeen Abbass unveiled the names of the chairperson of the 134 standing committees and their deputies on the floor of the House on Thursday.

The composition of the panels is in line with house standing rules which provide for the establishment of standing committees to carry out the oversight function on government agencies and programmes and address specific issues of national importance.

Peter Obi Speaks On Fake Photo With Fractional IPOB Leader, Simon Ekpa

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi has disowned a viral photo showing him with the Finland-based Biafra agitator Simon Ekpa.

Ekpa, a Nigerian who resides in Finland, has been calling for a sit-at-home in the South East to protest the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

In the viral image, co-founder of the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) movement and supporter of former Anambra governor, Aisha Yesufu, is seen in the background.

The Obi-Datti Media Office, in a statement signed by Diran Onifade on Thursday, said the picture was photoshopped from one Obi took with a supporter on Virgin Atlantic aircraft on July 21.

Ganduje Reveals Agenda For APC As National Chairman

The former Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje on Thursday revealed his agenda for the All Progressives Congress (APC) if he emerges as the National Chairman of the party.

Ganduje in his statement said he would emphasize membership drive if he becomes the national chairman.

The Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly invited the immediate past Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, over the launch of the national carrier, Nigeria Air.

Naija News gathered that Sirika arrived at the DSS headquarters in Abuja for questioning regarding the controversy surrounding the launch of the carrier.

FG Approves N25,000 Peculiar Allowance For Doctors

The Federal Government has approved the payment of N25,000 of peculiar allowance for medical and dental doctors in hospitals, medical centres, and clinics in the Federal Public Service.

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Service, Ekpo Nta, made this known in a letter dated July 26, 2023

Naija News reports that the letter is titled, “Accoutrement allowance for medical and dental doctors in hospitals, medical centres, and clinics in federal MDAs.”

The Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, ended speculations on Thursday afternoon as he presented the president’s ministerial nominee list before the Senate.

The President of Niger, Mohamed Bazoum on Thursday broke silence on social media after the military admitted to taking over the country.

Naija News had earlier reported that the military declared their takeover of power after detaining Bazoum on Wednesday.

The military announced the coup via a televised broadcast early on Thursday.

During the broadcast, ten military officers addressed President Bazoum directly, stating their seizure of power was to end the regime due to the “deteriorating security situation and bad governance.”
