Dutch Eredivisie giants, Ajax, have dropped Nigerian defender, Calvin Bassey from their pre-season squad as the Nigeria international prepares to leave the club this summer.

Ajax are off to Germany for their last phase of pre-season training but decided not to travel with Calvin Bassey who is getting closer to completing his move to Premier League club Fulham.

Reports claimed that the Nigeria international is expected to be in England for his medical examination this week as he prepares for Ajax’s exit a season after he joined the club from Glasgow Rangers.

Fulham’s coach Marco Silva is interested in Calvin Bassey and plans to pair him with Southampton and Ghanian defender Mohammed Salisu in the coming season.

Sky Sports reported that Fulham and both players are about to finalize their contracts. According to reports, Salisu and Bassey cost the Premier League £15 million each.

Fulham decided to shop for defenders after Nigerian defender Tosin Adarabioyo was put up for sale with a season left on his contract. They hope to raise money with the sale of the defender as coach Silva continues to find ways to improve his squad ahead of next season.

Reports claimed that Adarabioyo who is currently 25-year-old has attracted the attention of Tottenham Hotspur but the north London side have not made an official bid for him yet.
