Oriol Romeu is the third signing of FC Barcelona in this summer transfer window as the Spanish giants continue to battle with financial issues.

Barcelona who are the current champions of the Spanish La Liga are trying to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2023-2024 season which is expected to be a very busy season for the club.

Earlier in the summer transfer window, they attempted to bring back the club’s legend Lionel Messi, when his contract with PSG expired. But the record 7 times Ballon d’Or winner decided to join MLS club Inter Miami citing how he was forced out of the Spanish club in 2021 due to financial issues.

Since Barca is trying to balance their books in line with the financial fair play rules, the La Liga champions are focused on less expensive players.

Earlier today, they announced the arrival of Oriol Romeu from Girona FC. Barca paid Girona €5 million for the services of the 31-year-old Defensive Midfielder.

According to a statement posted on the club’s website, Romeu signed a three seasons contract with the club which will keep him at the club until June 30, 2026.

FC Barcelona decided to insert a release clause worth 400 million euros in the contract of Oriol Romeu who is a product of La Masia, Barca’s famous football academy.

Before the arrival of Romeu this summer, FC Barcelona completed the signing of German central midfielder Ilkay Gündogan, 32-year-old, from Manchester City on a free transfer. Also, Barca have signed 32-year-old Iñigo Martínez from Athletic Bilbao on a free transfer.
