Nnamdi Kanu: Military Can Not End South-East Crisis, Igbo Youths Suggest Solution

A Coalition of South-East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) has admonished President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government to release the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, to end the ongoing crisis in the South-Eastern part of the country.

According to the Igbo youths, the military can not solve the sit-at-home order and killings in the region, but Kanu’s freedom will bring about peace and order.

Naija News understands that COSEYL noted this in a statement issued on Monday by its President General, Goodluck Ibem.

The Igbo youths urged President Tinubu to without further hesitation, obey the Court of Appeal judgement which earlier ordered the release of Kanu from the Department of State Services (DSS) custody.

Ibem argued that the continuous incarceration of the IPOB leader despite the court ruling was unlawful and illegal.

Ibem recalled an assertion recently made earlier by Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, that military might cannot solve the problem in the Northeast but a non-kinetic solution.

The coalition insists that only Kanu’s freedom and negotiation with agitators would quel the trouble in the South-East.

“Unless we want to engage in an endless war of attrition, there cannot be a military solution to the crisis in the South-East.

“There has to be a non-kinetic solution to the insecurity in the region as recommended by Vice-President Kashim shettima for the resolution of the crisis in the Northeast.

“We therefore call on President Tinubu to obey the Court of Appeal judgement releasing Nnamdi Kanu from DSS custody because adherence to the rule of law is panacea to peace, harmony and security in the nation”, the statement added.
