President Tinubu Receives Presidents Of Benin, Niger, Guinea Bissau In Aso Rock
President Bola Tinubu is in the middle of a meeting with Patrice Talon, the President of Benin Republic, Mohammed Bazoum, the President of Niger Republic, and Umaro Sissoco Embalo, the President of Guinea Bissau.
The meeting is taking place at the presidential villa in Abuja.
The three African presidents, each of whom arrived separately, were welcomed by the Brigade of Guards before being led to President Tinubu’s office.
Though the specifics of the meeting have not been made public at the time of this report, the topic of conversation is expected to revolve around economic issues.
The visiting presidents arrived at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa around noon and were set to discuss these topics with their host.
The meeting comes barely nine days after President Tinubu assumed the Chairmanship of the Authority of Heads of State of the Economic Community of West African States.
The leaders are expected to discuss security and economic development in the sub-region.
Tinubu is likely to reiterate his stance on defending democracy in the subregion given the spate of coups in recent years.
Guinea-Bissau had survived an attempted coup in February 2022. However, the civilian governments of Guinea, Mali and Burkina Faso had been toppled between 2019 and 2022.
