Kenneth Okonkwo Speaks Ahead Of Supreme Court's Final Judgment On 2023 Presidential Election

Veteran Nollywood actor cum politician, Kenneth Okonkwo has reacted to the state of emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu on food security.

Naija News recalls that Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communications and Strategy, Dele Alake told State House correspondents that a state of emergency had been declared on food after Tinubu’s consultations with key stakeholders in the agricultural sector at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The president also approved that all matters pertaining to food and water availability and affordability, as essential livelihood items, be included within the purview of the National Security Council.

This is followed by an immediate release of fertilizers and grains to farmers and households to mitigate the effects of the subsidy removal.

Alake said “We will immediately release fertilizers and grains to farmers and households to mitigate the effects of the subsidy removal.

“There will be an organic synergy between the Ministry of Agriculture and the use of water resources to ensure adequate irrigation of farmlands and to guarantee that food is available all year round.

“As a country, Mr. President has made it clear that we are no longer comfortable with seasonal farming. We can no longer afford to have farming downtime.”

Reacting to Tinubu’s declaration, Okonkwo opined that the Federal Government was putting the cart before the horse.

He argued that the government ought to declare a state of emergency on the security of lives of the citizenry before food.

Speaking via Twitter, he wrote, “A government that is declaring a state of emergency on food security before declaring a state of emergency on security of lives of the producers and eaters of the food is a government that understands that placing the cart before the horse is the best order of governance. Shame‼”
