Senate Takes Action On Lopsidedness In Tinubu Govt’s Recruitment, Deployment

The Senate has initiated confirmation hearings for the recently appointed Service Chiefs.

In a letter read on Monday, President Bola Tinubu asked the Senate to confirm the nominations of the Service Chiefs.

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio did not provide a specific date for the confirmation hearings, but suggested that the proceedings would take place during regular sessions.

On Thursday, as the plenary session reconvened, the Senate made an exception to its rules by allowing the Service Chiefs into the chamber.

The Service Chiefs Are:

Maj. Gen. C.G Musa, Chief of Defence Staff

Maj. Gen. T. A Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff

Rear Admiral E. A Ogalla Chief of Naval Staff

AVM H.B Abubakar Chief of Air Staff

DIG Kayode Egbetokun Acting Inspector-General of Police

Maj. Gen. EPA Undiandeye Chief of Defense Intelligence

Naija News recalls that Tinubu last week Thursday also wrote to the House of Representatives as well, seeking the confirmation of the new service chiefs.

In a letter addressed to the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, and read at plenary on Thursday, the president asked the lawmakers to expeditiously confirm the appointment of the service chiefs.

The president in the letter said that the request was in compliance with the provisions of Section 18(1) of the Armed Forces Act. Cap A20 Laws the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
