Tinubu Speaks On His Emergence As ECOWAS Chairman [Photos]

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed his gratitude to his colleagues over his emergence as the Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Naija News recalls President Tinubu on Sunday emerged as the new ECOWAS Chairman at the 63rd Ordinary Session of the coalition held in the Republic of Guinea-Bissau.

In a statement via his verified Twitter page on Sunday night, Tinubu, who took over from President Umaro Sissoco Embaló of Guinea-Bissau, said his election is a noteworthy affirmation of Nigeria’s continued leadership in the sub-region and the African continent.

The Nigerian leader said he has renewed his dedication and that of the nation to the cause of peace and progress of the African sub-region following his emergence as the new Chairman of ECOWAS.

Tinubu also stated that his government will foster the collaboration and commitment required to tackle trans-border issues of security, economic growth and sustainable development.

He wrote: “I’m grateful to my distinguished colleagues for the honour of being elected as the Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) at the 63rd Ordinary Session that took place today in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau.

“The development is a noteworthy affirmation of Nigeria’s continued leadership in the sub-region and the African continent.

“As Chairman of the important coalition, I renew my dedication and that of our nation to the cause of peace and progress as we foster the collaboration and commitment required to tackle trans-border issues of security, economic growth and sustainable development.”
