'Complete Despondency' - Peter Obi Reacts To Properties Demolitions In Lagos, Others

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has berated the Federal Government for accusing the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the just concluded election, Peter Obi, of treason.

Naija News reported that the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, had warned the LP flag bearer against inciting Nigerians to violence over the outcome of the presidential election.

In an interview with some foreign media organizations in Washington, United States on Tuesday, Mohammed said it is wrong for Obi to seek redress in court over the outcome of the presidential election and on the other hand, incite people to violence.

The minister said the statement by Obi’s running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, that the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, should not be sworn in as president amounted to treason.

He had said: “Obi and his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, cannot be threatening Nigerians that if the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, of the All Progressives Congress is sworn-in on May 29, it will be the end of democracy in Nigeria.

“This is treason. You cannot be inviting insurrection, and this is what they are doing. Obi’s statement is that of a desperate person, he is not the Democrat that he claimed to be. A democrat should not believe in democracy only when he wins the election. (/) ”

In a chat with The Punch on Tuesday night, the PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, said the treason allegation against Obi was wrong and baseless.

Abdullahi warned the federal government against any attempt to arrest the former Anambra State Governor or his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed.

The PDP stalwart stated that arresting Obi “will be detrimental to national peace and development”, adding that the thought of a possible arrest is senseless and as ill-advised.
