British Tennis star Andy Murray won a deciding set in Indian Wells for the eighth time this season to advance to the second round.

Tomas Etcheverry was defeated by the former world number one, Andy Murray, in a match that lasted three hours and twelve minutes. The final scores were 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, and 6-4.

The 23-year-old Argentine star was able to dodge 16 of Murray’s enormous 20 breakpoints.

After gaining a break point to make it 2-1 in the second set, Etcheverry won the tiebreak to take the first set 7-5.

Murray was able to cling onto that break opportunity and went on to easily win the second set.

In the decisive set, each player had a chance. At 4-3, Etcheverry faced two break points, but Murray saved them with some excellent serving.

The British icon then secured the match-winning break when the Argentine double-faulted in the following game.

“I really felt like I was in the driving seat for much of the match,” Murray said after the game.

“I was creating lots of opportunities but I just wasn’t able to capitalize. I made some poor decisions at times, but in the end, did really well to get through that.”

He added, “I’m not going to keep winning every three-set match that I play, but it’s been an amazing start to the year.”

Andy Murray’s next game in the Indian Wells Master round of 64 is on Saturday against Spanish Tennis star Pablo Carreño Busta.
