Update: Three Bodies Recovered As Train Collides With Bus

A Lagos BRT bus loaded with passengers on Thursday morning collided with a train at the Shogunle area of Ikeja.

The incident was confirmed by the spokesman of the National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA) Southwest Zone, Ibrahim Farinloye.

It was reported that the BRT was trying to cross the PWD/Sogunle rail crossing while the train coming into Lagos from Abeokuta trapped the bus on its rail.

An update has it that two females and a male staff of the state government died, while several others were injured.

According to Farinloye, “Three bodies of staff members (two females and a male) of the State Government, have been recovered. Eighty-four were rescued alive to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital Ikeja.

“The State Government staff bus was trying to cross the PWD/Sogunle rail crossing while the train coming into Lagos from Abeokuta (Ogun State) trapped the bus on its rail.”

LASEMA, NEMA, Police, FRSC, CIVIL DEFENCE, Nigeria Railway Corporation team and other emergency responders are still on a rescue mission.

The accident has caused a gridlock on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway for motorists coming from Oshodi around Shogunle to Ikeja-Along.

Sanwo-Olu Reacts As Train Collides With Lagos Staff Bus

In a related development, the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has commiserated with the family of victims involved in the early morning train-bus crash.

Reacting to the development, Sanwo-Olu expressed sadness over the incident and extended his prayers to the families of those who died in the process.

He further thanked everyone, particularly Lagosians who immediately joined in the rescue efforts before emergency services came on board.
