The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council (APC PCC) has berated three opposition parties over the call for the resignation of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu.

Naija News earlier reported that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party (LP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) had asked Yakubu to resign and demanded fresh conduct of the presidential election.

The PDP, LP, and ADC National Chairmen, Iyorchia Ayu, Julius Abure, and Ralph Nwosu respectively addressed a press conference held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja on Tuesday.

But in a counter press conference on Tuesday, the Chief Spokesman of the APC PCC, Festus Keyamo, said it is wrong for the opposition parties to call for a fresh election when the current electoral process has not been concluded.

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment said the presidential and National Assembly elections held on Saturday were credible enough.

Keyamo said only the election tribunal could interfere with the process, thereby asking the aggrieved parties to approach the court if they had cases.

The APC PCC spokesman added their request was against the provision of the Electoral Act, saying the results collated by the state returning officers could not be tampered with by the INEC chairman

He said: “They actually called on President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene; to interfere with the process. First of all, those demands are not possible under the law.

“Their request was against the provision of the Electoral Act, saying the results collated by the state returning officers could not be tampered with by the INEC chairman.

“When they (the results) come to the national collation centre, the national chairman has no power under the law to review what all those returning officers have done.”
