INEC Has Nothing To Hide Regarding 2023 Election - Yakubu

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has said every Nigerian on the queue before 2.30 pm will vote regardless of all the delays.

Naija News understands that the INEC boss said no matter how long it takes, everyone waiting before the close of voting at 2.30 pm will be allowed to vote.

Yakubu, who admitted that officials and materials arrived at some polling units late, explained that suspected bandits in the Alawa area of Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State delayed the deployment of men and materials to the area.

Earlier, Naija News reported that the INEC chair while speaking on the ongoing Presidential and National Assembly elections from the National Collation Center in Abuja, the nation’s capital said the commission is not considering extending the voting time in places accreditation officials came late.

Yakubu however said reports from around the federation so far indicate that the BVAS machines were functioning optimally.

Addressing the challenges of some party agents who could not find their tags, he said parties were allowed to upload nominate their own agents and upload the names on a dedicated portal which they did.

“We did not interact with them directly,” adding that agents’ tags were dispatched to the states and collected by the state chairmen of the parties.

Yakubu who submitted that some of the parties failed to submit names of agents for some polling units noted that the commission will not accept more than two accredited agents for the collation of results.

He also warned that situations, where agents fight over who the authentic party agent is during collation, will not be accepted.
