The ongoing Presidential and National Assembly elections commenced in most parts of Kebbi state two hours behind schedule.

While some polling units in the capital city of Kebbi state, Birnin Kebbi, commenced voting around 11 am, most parts of the inter-land weren’t voting as of 2 pm.

Aside from the initial reports that election materials and INEC officials arrived in the city behind schedule, there have not been any other negative reports as the BVAS is said to be working effectively.

Despite the huge voter turnout, voting has not yet begun in several other units, according to reports from the INEC office in the state. One of the units affected is that of Kebbi state governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu

However, Ahmad Kontangora, the commissioner of police for Kebbi State command, said that voting would still take place despite the lines officials’ tardiness in showing up at polling places throughout the state.

While Mr. Kontangora was touring polling units in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital, Ahmad Mahmud, the Independent National Electoral Commissioner, allegedly assured him that everything would go according to plan.
