FG Orders Closure Of Land Borders Ahead Of Election
Ahead of Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly Election, the Federal Government has ordered the closure of all land borders.
Naija News reports that the spokesperson of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Tony Akuneme, made the disclosure in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.
Akuneme said the border closure ordered by NIS Comptroller-General, Isah Jere, will come into effect on election day and would last for 24 hours.
He added that the closure will be effective from 12am on Saturday to 12am on Sunday in order to secure the country from foreign invaders planning to come and vote as Nigerians.
Akuneme said all command comptrollers especially those in the border states are to ensure strict enforcement of this directive.
Police IG Orders Movement Restriction On Election Day
The development comes hours after the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, ordered the restriction of vehicular movement across the country on election day.
The restriction, which exempts persons on essential duties, will be effective from midnight on Friday till 6pm on Saturday.
However, persons on essential services are officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), electoral observers, persons responding to medical emergencies, firefighters, among others.
Baba stated this in a statement released by the spokesman of the force, Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
