PDP Take Bold Decision On G5 Governors, Fayose, Others

The Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has debunked rumours that he no longer belongs to the G5 governors group of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Naija News reports that the Chief Press Secretary to the governor Nathaniel Ikyur told Daily Independent that even though his principal has openly declared support for the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, he has not left the G5 group.

According to Ikyur, Ortom’s decision to support Obi wasn’t an indication of separation from the G5 group or its leader, the Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike.

The governor’s aide confirmed that Ortom indeed endorsed Obi/Datti and asked all his supporters to vote for him in Makurdi, the Benue capital.

Ikyur said the video making the rounds was true of what happened with the endorsement of Obi by Ortom.

He also revealed that Obi was slated to hold a town hall meeting with PDP stakeholders from the 23 local government areas of Benue State and also pay a courtesy call on the governor.

The governor’s aide noted that he however could not make the schedule due to bad weather, even though he didn’t disclose if a later meeting has been scheduled.

Ortom is a member of the five aggrieved PDP governors popularly known as the G5 governors or Integrity group who have refused to work for the flag bearer of their party, Atiku Abubakar.

The group which is led by Wike has insisted that the PDP national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu resigns his position as a candidate of southern extraction.

The group, who claimed to be requesting what is just and fair has been at loggerheads with the PDP leadership and all attempts to resolve the dispute have proved abortive.
