The Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Digital Communications, Bashir Ahmad has slammed Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje and his counterpart, Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State over their outbursts following the decision of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on old Naira notes.

Naija News earlier reported that El-Rufai countered President Muhammadu Buhari‘s pronouncement during his nationwide broadcast on Thursday morning.

The Nigerian leader had maintained that the naira redesign policy by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) stands.

Buhari said only the old N200 notes would be acceptable for transactions until April 10, while the old N500 and N1000 remain banned, as announced by the apex bank earlier.

However, in his statewide address on Thursday night, Governor El-Rufai declared that all the old Naira notes would remain legal tender in Kaduna until the Supreme Court of Nigeria decides otherwise.

Ganduje Dares Businesses Owners

Kano State Government has also dared business owners in the state to reject old Naira notes and risk losing their operational licenses or face sanctions.

The state Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Malam Muhammad Garba, averred that the old Naira notes are still legal tenders.

He said the Supreme Court was emphatic on its interim injunction on the issue of old Naira notes which would continue to be used as legal tender hand in hand with the new ones until a gradual and final phase-out.

Why Gaduje And Co Are Fuming

In a series of posts on Twitter, Bashir Ahmad claimed El-Rufai, Ganduje, and others are only angry at the Naira redesign policy because the money they have stolen and stashed is now useless.

According to him, the aggrieved governors do not care for the masses but are only fighting for their selfish interests.

Bashir further dared both governors to directly deposit the alleged stashed money they are claiming was legally gotten to CBN and the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) will wait to investigate the legality of the money.

He wrote: “They have stashed money and now they’re useless, that’s the reason for all the fuming. Ganduje and co don’t care about the masses. If the money Ganduje and friends are shouting about is legit, why don’t they deposit it to CBN, the EFCC and NFIU will wait for them to verify.”
