The apex Ijaw socio-cultural body, Ijaw National Congress (INC), has debunked reports that it endorsed the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for the upcoming election.

According to reports, the Obi-Datti campaign team had, in a statement, claimed that the INC endorsed Obi at the Ijaw House, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, during an interactive session with the group.

But in a swift statement titled, ‘We have not endorsed any presidential candidate,’ the INC National Publicity Secretary, Ezonebi Oyakemeagbegha stated that the group had not back any presidential candidate.

He said: “The full text of the INC president’s address and footage at the interactive session with Mr Peter Obi are in the public domain and at no time was an endorsement mentioned.”

According to him, the INC is willing to interface with any of the remaining 15 presidential candidates for the purpose of addressing and eliciting genuine commitment to the Ijaw agenda of restructuring, devolution of power, resource control, and other minimum conditions that could influence our support for the Nigerian project.
