Iheanacho Shines As Leicester Humbled Tottenham

Leicester City put on one of their best team performances of the season on Saturday against Tottenham, but Kelechi Iheanacho dominated the post-game applauds.

Leicester went without a Premier League victory between the second week of November and the start of February, but they have now earned back-to-back victories, over Aston Villa and Tottenham.

Even though Tottenham took the lead in the first half thanks to a goal from Rodrigo Bentancur, Leicester City bounced back with three goals from Iheanacho, James Maddison, and Nampalys Mendy before the break.

With manager Antonio Conte back in control following a gallbladder operation, Rodrigo Bentancur’s superb redirection of Victor Kristiansen’s sliced clearance gave Spurs the perfect start.

But the resurgent Foxes scored twice in under two and a half minutes to radically alter the game’s outcome.

Nampalys Mendy smashed a first-time screamer from the edge of the box into the top corner for the game’s opening goal, the second of his career.

Wout Faes’ midway tackle on Harry drifted the ball to Kelechi Iheanacho who was in the ideal spot to provide an assist for James Maddison.

While being defended by Eric Dier of Tottenham, Iheanacho scored Leicester’s third goal just before halftime by hitting a shot into the bottom corner.

Harvey Barnes had a goal disallowed by the video assistant referee for offside but Spurs failed to learn their lesson and the winger slotted in a fourth from Maddison’s pass 10 minutes later.

With the 4-1 win, Leicester City are now 13th on the Premier League table, six points above the relegation zone, while Tottenham remain fifth.
