The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu is currently briefing the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

The weekly FEC meeting is presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Yakubu’s briefing is coming hours after he met with the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.

The INEC Chairman had complained about how the scarcity of Naira in the country could affect the logistics of the commission ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Yakubu in the preparation of the electoral body for the 2023 elections on Tuesday also met with the National Security Adviser (NSA), Babagana Monguno.

Monguno and the INEC Chairman met to discuss security-related issues with respect to the forthcoming elections.

The NSA boss assured Yakubu on Tuesday that security officers are well-prepared for the election.

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police, Alkali Baba who was not in the council chamber at the presidential villa when the meeting commenced at 9:58 am, is expected to also speak at the council meeting.

Yakubu is also expected to appear at the Council of State meeting on Friday alongside the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, to discuss the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections as well as the March 11 governorship and state houses of assembly poll.
