The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a couple for allegedly battering their two children aged 5 and 2.

Naija News understands that the woman identified as Busola Oyediran and her husband, Akebiara Emmanuel were arrested on Friday, January 13, 2023, by the police following reports by concerned neighbours.

The neighbours had alerted the police over the constant physical abuse of the minors by their biological mother and her partner.

Following the report, the police stormed the home of the couple in the Egbeda/Idimu area of the state and arrested them.

When confronted, Busola debunked the claims of brutalizing her children saying they fell from a motorcycle and suffered serious injuries.

Speaking on the incident, the spokesperson of the state police command, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the couple is currently in detention and will be arraigned in court by Monday, January 16.

He added that the biological father of the children has been alerted.

DPO Slumps, Dies Inside Office

Meanwhile, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Seme Police Division in Lagos State, SP Mojeed Salami has slumped and died in his office.

The unfortunate incident occurred on Tuesday, January 10.

A police source told Daily Trust that the deceased complained of a headache on the day of the incident and visited the hospital.

After he returned from the hospital, he was still feeling sick and asked his orderly to tell the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) to come to his office, as he wanted to leave, but not without handing over official proceedings.

It was reported that the orderly returned to meet the deceased on the floor gasping for breath.

He was rushed to the Badagry General Hospital where he was confirmed dead.
