The quarter-finals of the 2022-2023 Carabao Cup stunningly ended on Wednesday night as Pep Guardiola-led Manchester City fell to struggling Southampton.

Southampton, who are now last in the Premier League, shocked Manchester City 2-0 to advance to the 2023 Carabao Cup semi-finals.

First-half goals from Sékou Mara in the 23rd minute and Moussa Djenepo in the 28th minute prevented Manchester City from progressing to the next round.

Even though Pep Guardiola introduced Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland in the second half, City failed to break through Southampton’s defense.

Hence, Manchester City will have to face Premier League, FA Cup, and the UEFA Champions League as they continue with their quest to win at least one medal this season.

While Southampton will try to escape relegation in the Premier League and defeat Newcastle United in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.

Southampton’s first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals round will take place at St. Mary’s Stadium. It is scheduled for Tuesday, January 24. The kick-off time has not been confirmed as of the time of publishing this report.

On the other hand, Manchester United defeated Championship side Charlton 3-0 on January 10 and will play Nottingham Forest in the first leg of the competition’s semi-finals at the City Ground on January 24.

The second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals round is scheduled for January 31 for all teams. The kick-off time has not been confirmed yet too.
