Cameroon’s former professional footballer, Modeste M’Bami, has reportedly died, Naija News learnt.

Reports made available to journalists during the weekend said the former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2023.

It was gathered that M’bami died after suffering a cardiac arrest. The former player’s demise was confirmed in a publication sighted on the official website of the French football club.

The publication noted that M’bami had a heart attack at his home in Le Havre, France, on Saturday and gave up the ghost not long after.

“Paris Saint-Germain is in mourning. Modeste M’Bami passed away at the age of 40 after suffering a heart attack. We offer heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones,” the club’s statement read.

Naija News understands that the deceased played for several French clubs, including PSG and Marseille. He won the Coupe de France with PSG in 2004 and 2006.

M’Bami scored three goals in 37 appearances for Cameroon and was part of the squad that won gold at the Sydney Olympics in 2000.

Everton’s Alex Iwobi Undergoes Scan After Ankle Ligament Injury

Meanwhile, Nigeria professional footballer, Alex Iwobi, has undergone a scan to ascertain the extent of his ankle ligament injury.

Naija News reports that Iwobi injured his ankle on Friday in Everton’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester United in the FA Cup third round.
