After footage on social media showed supporters yelling insults and throwing items at him away at Real Valladolid on Friday night, Real Madrid’s Brazilian forward Vinicius Jr accused La Liga of continuing to do nothing about racist fans at games.

Contrary to the claims of Vinicius, La Liga issued a statement denouncing all sorts of hate speech and announcing that it was investigating incidents of racism at the game.

After being replaced in Real Madrid’s 2-0 victory, Vinicius appeared to be the target of criticism as he went by spectators at the Jose Zorrilla stadium in Valladolid.

“Racists continue to go to stadiums and watch the biggest club in the world up close and La Liga continues to do nothing,” Vinicius wrote on Twitter.

“I will continue with my head held high and celebrating my victories and those of Madrid.”

The 22-year-old was the target of racist shouts directed against him by Atletico Madrid supporters in September outside the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium before a match against Real Madrid.

The league said in a statement that it was investigating what happened during the game on Friday.

“La Liga has detected racist insults from the stands of the Zorrilla stadium, published on social networks,” La Liga said in a statement.

“These facts will be reported to the Anti-Violence Commission and the Public Prosecutor’s Office for hate crimes, as has been done on other occasions.”
