A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has defended Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi over the explosion that rocked the Okene area of the state.

Naija News earlier reported that the incident which happened close to the old palace of the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland left three persons dead and two others injured.

According to a statement issued by the Kogi government on Thursday, the bomb explosion was the handiwork of enemies of progress and state detractors.

The government said that it received intelligence that an explosion was going to happen and immediately deployed security operatives across the state to be able to frustrate their efforts.

It, however, said despite the massive deployment of security operatives across the state, the terrorists still carried out their threat to distract President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to the state.

Following the sad incident, some critics of the Yahaya Bello administration accused the governor of being responsible for the explosion.

Reacting to the accusation in a tweet via his Twitter page on Friday, Fani-Kayode said those holding the governor of being responsible for the explosion are mentally ill.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain added that the lie and accusation against the Kogi governor are motivated by hate and envy beggars belief.

He wrote: “Those that are accusing @OfficialGYBKogi of bombing his own traditional rulers’ palace on the day that @MBuhari was scheduled to commission projects in his state are suffering from mental illness.

“The lies that people tell when they are motivated by hate & envy beggars belief.
