Naija News looks at the top happenings making headlines on the front pages of Nigeria’s national newspapers today Wedneday 28th December 2022.

The PUNCH: There are strong indications that the five aggrieved Peoples Democratic Party governors may endorse their preferred presidential candidate on January 5, barring any unforeseen circumstances. The PUNCH gathered on Tuesday that the governors, who are presently meeting in London, United Kingdom, might be influenced by former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s advice that the Presidency should come to the South-East in 2023.

The Guardian: Any hope of a new national carrier taking off in the lifespan of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration is fast dimming. Besides missing a sixth take-off date this month, the proposed airline, already christened ‘Nigeria Air’, now has its fate stuck in a law court, with barely five months to fly or sink. While it continues to lick up budgetary provisions, with an additional N1.3 billion in the 2023 Appropriation Bill (cumulative N15.9 billion in five years), the high-end national venture has continued to divide stakeholders, creating landmines for potential failure.

The Nation: Plans are underway for an upward review of salary structures for civil servants by the Federal Government, Labour and Employment Minister Dr. Chris Ngige hinted yesterday. He said the government was already reviewing the civil and public servants’ salary structures and will soon make a pronouncement on salary increase to cushion the effect of rising inflation

Daily Trust: To finalise the deal on the 2023 presidency, five aggrieved governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are set to meet with the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Daily Trust has reliably gathered. A reliable source close to the former Lagos State governor, said barring any last-minute change, the meeting will be held in one of the European countries this week
