NYSC Has Not United Nigeria - Shehu Sani Tackles Scheme's DG

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Shehu Sani, has berated the Federal Government over neglect of the family of the late Selimota Idowu who died in a train accident in Abuja.

Naija News had reported how an Abuja-bound train crushed a staff of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Channel five, Abuja, Selimota Idowu, to death after the train rammed into her car.

In a tweet via his verified Twitter page on Tuesday, Sani stated that the Ministries of Transportation and the Federal Capital Territory had yet to pay a condolence visit to the family of the victim since the incident.

The former Senator added that neither the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) nor elected officials of the FCT had visited the victim’s family in Chikakore Community.

His tweet read,” Selimat Idowu was crushed to death by the Kaduna-Abuja Train. No visit or condolence by the Ministry of Transportation, none by the Ministry of the Federal Capital Territory, none by the Nigerian Railway Corporation, none by the FG, none by the FCT elected officials.”

NYSC Won’t Be Scrapped, Or Optional, It Would Be Reformed – Minister

The Youth and Sports Development Minister, Sunday Dare has declared that the compulsory one-year scheme, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) will neither be scrapped nor made optional.

According to him, the scheme instead of being scrapped or made optional would undergo reforms to make it stronger.

Naija News reports that the minister at the 14th edition of President Muhammadu Buhari Administration’s scorecard series in Abuja on Tuesday said just like every institution, the NYSC may undergo reforms too because it has fulfilled the rationale for which it was created.

Dare noted that the compulsory one-year service is still relevant in promoting unity in diversity every single day of its existence.

He advanced that over 3.9 million youths applied for jobs because of the integrity of the online method adopted by the scheme.
