The Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan has received its 100 million naira prize money 11 days after winning the Dozy Mmobuosi Super Cup.

Organizers of the competition, the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) presented the cheque to 3SC alongside the sponsor, the Dozy Mmobuosi Foundation in Abuja on Tuesday, December 20, 2022.

The final of the tournament took place on December 9, between 3SC of Ibadan and Enyimba International of Aba. The championship game ended 3-2 in Lagos.

The competition for teams, who were classified as traditional clubs with histories of championship wins, included Enugu’s Rangers International and Benin’s Bendel Insurance.

While speaking earlier about the competition, Davidson Owumi, the Chief Operations Officer (COO) of IMC-NPFL, had said the tournament was for “four traditional clubs with continental legacies”, as demanded by the sponsors.

”Our partners in this competition are global entrepreneurs and it can take some time to get the huge amount involved across the world”, he said.

“But we are happy that this has been done with, to further underline the credibility of the tournament, the sponsors, and the organizers.”

According to recent discussions, Enyimba International, the competition’s runners-up, would shortly get 30 million Naira as their prize money, said a representative of the sponsors, Segun Sani.

He did, however, claim that the event was eye-opening and gave the assurance that the following edition, which would now be for the top eight clubs in the NPFL next season, will be better.

Following the awarding of prizes, Babatunde Olaniyan, Chairman of 3SC FC, expressed the club’s gratitude to the tournament’s sponsors and organizers.

He said: “We have never had it so good, and I want to believe it is the beginning of good things for us in the Nigerian football league.

“I assure you that we will judiciously use this money to further develop our club so that the expectations of taking the league to the highest level will be quickly realized.”
