PDP Crisis: We Have A Candidate – Oyo PDP Reveals

The Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has thrown its weight behind the ambition of the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

This is despite the open stand against Atiku’s ambition by the State Governor, Seyi Makinde who along with other PDP Governors known as the G5 have insisted they won’t support Atiku’s bid except Iyorchia Ayu steps down as the party’s national chairman.

However, the Oyo PDP Public Relations Officer, Akeem Olatunji has disclosed they will be working for the emergence of Atiku, Makinde, and all other PDP candidates in the 2023 election.

On the ongoing difference between the G5 Governors and Atiku as well as the PDP national leadership, Olatunji stated that despite the disagreement, they have not said they have any other candidate.

Speaking in a telephone chat with The PUNCH in Ibadan on Monday, the PDP state spokesperson said party members in Oyo will support Atiku and also vote for the re-election bid of Seyi Makinde.

He said: “Our party in Oyo State is not alien to the PDP at the national level. PDP is still our party and is doing well, and we have a candidate, which is Atiku Abubakar. Atiku is still the candidate for the PDP in the state.

“Even the four other governors, have they ever told you that they have other candidates?

“The only thing in the state is that Governor Seyi Makinde is the biggest brand to market any candidate in the state, so as far as we are concerned, we are marketing all our candidates in the state under the PDP with the GSM brand, and as far as we are concerned, Atiku Abubakar is one of the candidates. So when it comes to party matters, we don’t have any other candidate than Atiku Abubakar.”
