Anambra: What Soludo Told Atiku About His Presidential Bid

Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State has said the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, is one of the two leading flagbearers.

Naija News reports that the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CNBN) made this known on Thursday when he received the PDP standard bearer at the Government House in Awka, the state capital.

Soludo, who refused to name the second front-runner for the Presidency, asserted that he is not a politician and is struggling to fully participate in politics.

The governor, who formed a close working relationship with Atiku during his time as the CBN governor, stated that he is not scared to express his opinion on the struggle for the number one seat in the country.

Soludo, however, welcomed the former Vice President to the state, adding that he would make up his mind about the presidential candidate to vote for in 2023.

He said, “As have been said, of course you know you are one of the two front runners for the presidency of Nigeria. And in the fullness of time, we are going to have a conversation.

“I’m in politics, I’m still struggling whether I have become a politician or not,” in a video recording of the meeting sent to our correspondent.

“I said it as it is, for the sake of this country, for the sake of Nigeria, let me on behalf of the government of the good people of Anambra, the light of the nation welcome you.”

Earlier, Atiku and his running mate, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, arrived in Awka on Thursday, December 15, 2022, for PDP presidential campaign rally in the state.

The former Vice President and his entourage, including party stakeholders and supporters, were received in the state by Governor Soludo and members of his cabinet, and some residents of Anambra.

Taking to his verified Twitter handle on the courtesy visit to Governor Soludo, Atiku said he was delighted to meet the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria who he regarded as a promoter of good governance.

Atiku tweeted: “I paid a courtesy call at the Anambra Government House, and I am most delighted for the warm and brotherly reception accorded my team and me by Governor Charles Soludo.

“I admire his passion for developmental politics. It’s gladdening to note that we share a similar commitment to the promotion of good governance to better the lots of the common people.”
