Transfer: Besiktas Manager, Gunes Rejects Nigerian Forward, Nwakaeme

Turkish professional football club, Besiktas are keenly interested in signing Nigeria player Anthony Nwakaeme, but the club manager, Senol Gunes, disagreed with the deal.

Lagos-born Nwakaeme currently plays as a left winger for Saudi club Al-Fayha in Saudi Professional League. Besiktas wants the 33-year-old to return to Turkey, but the deal may have just died on arrival.

Nwakaeme had helped Trabzonspor claim the Turkish Super Lig title last season. He, however, rejected a new offer from the club and opted for a move to Saudi, Naija News understands.

Nwakaeme scored 47 goals and provided 40 assists in 145 appearances during his four-year stint with the Black Sea Storm.

Aksam, a Turkish news outlet, reports that Gunes is not interested in adding the Nigerian player to his squad.

It remains to be seen if the club will push ahead with the move or agree with the gaffer’s decision.

Meanwhile, former Super Eagles attacker, Julius Aghahowa, encouraged Morocco to maintain their composure against Spain in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

“As for Morocco, I feel that they should take each game one step at a time. It will be a very difficult game for them in the round of 16. They need to be calm, don’t panic,” he added.
