Popular Nollywood actor, Tony Umez has officially endorsed a presidential candidate ahead of the 2023 election.

Umez gave his undivided support to Labour Party (LP) flag bearer, Peter Obi.

Speaking on the reason for his allegiance to Obi, Umez stated that the former Anambra Governor has always been saying the right things and has done the right things in the past.

Tony stated this during an interview with BBC.

He opined that he would vote for Obi if he were to vote tomorrow.

He explained that while he is not categorically saying that Obi is a good man, he has however proven that he is ready to work for a better Nigeria.

He said, “Some think it’s their birthright to rule Nigeria. I don’t know where that came from. I am not saying Peter Obi is a good man, but he’s saying the right things and has done the right things.

There is much rage right now. Nigeria is blessed with great human and natural resources, but we have not been blessed with good leadership and the youth are angry about how things turned out.

“There are some people that have been thrown up that I feel are not credible enough to rule us. I think if you are part of a problem, you can not be part of the solution.”

Umez condemned what he tags sit-tight rulership in Africa as he criticized the President Muhammadu Buhari government.

The Nollywood actor stated those in power years ago are still the same set of people and have decided not to leave their position.

Umez lamented that if all these were to be taken into consideration how could the same set of leaders promise a better Nigeria.

You ask someone what they do for a living, and they say they are a politician. Is that a job?, It’s a call to service. But for these guys, that’s where they earn a living. People steal with impunity, and there’s no integrity among our leaders,” he added.
