Naija News looks at the top happenings making headlines on the front pages of Nigeria’s national newspapers today Sunday 20th November 2022.

The Guardian: Deep-seated animosity among its leaders and political class, self-aggrandisement, greed, lack of strategic engagement, and inability to secure the endorsement of dominant political parties at elections, among other issues, have been identified as factors working against the Igbo political elite’s quest for the Presidency more than 23 years after the nation returned to democratic rule. In the build-up to the 2023 general elections, the South East region expressed the belief that it’s the region’s turn to produce the president of the country.

This Day: Following a revelation by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that it was planning to print extra 93.5 million ballot papers for a possible presidential election runoff, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has said he will win on the first ballot. On his part, Atiku’s counterpart in the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, yesterday, chided the PDP for failing to develop Delta State in spite of the huge resources accruing to the state, stressing that state is not an ATM for migratory politicians.

The Nation: Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, yesterday, escalated his longrunning war of words with the leadership of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that neither he, nor his G5 governor allies, would work for the party’s presidential candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, at next year’s elections. He also doubled down on corruption allegations against National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, challenging him to sue if the accusations were untrue.

Daily Trust: Nigeria’s power sector has been one of the weak links in the infrastructure chain of the Nigerian economy, and for it to deliver the expected results, it must undergo fundamental restructuring, analysts have said. Such changes must range from decentralising the current national grid to ensuring cost-effective pricing of power output and diversification of the power mix. This must be one of the priority items for Nigeria’s next president, the analysts added.

Sunday Sun: Aggrieved Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors known as the Integrity Governors (G-5 Governors) have declared that Nigeria is in turmoil and needs credible leadership to lead the country out of the plethora of challenges. Chairman of G-5 Governors and Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom, made this declaration at the Rivers PDP governorship campaign flag-off in Port Harcourt yesterday.
