Ex-Convict Caught Stealing Hours After Bail Out From Prison
The suspect

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested one Yakubu Yusuf, who regained his freedom weeks after being convicted of a crime.

The 23-year-old suspect, according to the Lagos State command of the force, was arrested last Saturday while attempting to steal car parts from the state’s office of the Federal Fire Service.

The force command public relations officer in Lagos, Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed in a statement made available to the public domain on Thursday that the ex-convict was apprehended by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) on November 12, 2022.

The police spokesman said Yusuf had just returned from prison after one month that he was convicted for stealing at Lagos State fuel dump, Alausa, Ikeja.

“Learning that he was imprisoned because he could not pay a fine which was an option, an NGO facilitated his release by paying the fine on Friday, November 11, just ten days after his conviction on November 1, 2022,” the police officer said of Yusuf.

He said Yusuf was arrested again after breaking into Lagos State Fire Service premises, where he stole valve covers of an old fire truck under repairs.

“The CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi-led RRS has since transferred the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution,” Hundeyin reported.

Lagos: Man Lands In Police Net After Attempting To Sell Stolen Phone To Victim’s Wife

Meanwhile, a hoodlum in Lagos State is reportedly in detention after he was apprehended while attempting to sell a stolen phone to his victim’s wife.

The case before a High Court sitting at the Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos State has been scheduled for November 30, 2022, for further hearing, Naija News understands.

The phone owner, Jones Adewoye, while appearing at the court session on Thursday morning, said the hoodlum, Felix Ayeye, and his gang members attacked him while returning home from work and collected his phone with other items.

He explained that Ayeye and his accomplices cornered him at a dark spot on the day, stabbed him with a weapon, collected the phone with him and left him in pain.

The victim, Adewoye, was the first prosecution witness to testify before the court on Thursday morning.

Narrating the incident, he told Justice Modupe Nico-Clay that the hoodlums led by Ayeye allegedly stabbed him with a dagger and robbed him of his phone and other items worth N78,000.

He explained that Ayeye, who is facing two-count bordering on conspiracy to commit robbery and armed robbery, was arrested while attempting to sell his stolen phone to his wife.

During the proceedings, the prosecuting counsel, Titilayo Olanrewaju-Daudu, said the offence committed contravened Sections 299 and 297 (2) (b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge. Consequently, Justice Nico-Clay adjourned the case till November 10 for trial.

Adewoye said the suspect was arrested while attempting to sell the phone he stole from him to his wife at their residence in the Ajah area of the state.
