The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, and the vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ifeanyi Okowa, engaged in an argument at the debate organized for presidential candidates.

Naija News reports that the debate was organised by Arise Television in collaboration with the Centre for Development and Democracy (CDD) at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, on Sunday.

The presidential candidates of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi; the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Musa Kwankwaso and Kola Abiola of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), attended the event.

After their brief introduction, the candidates were asked to answer the same question in turns which led to a sharp disagreement between Obi and Okowa.

Speaking at the event, Obi said he was able to perform well during his tenure as the Governor of Anambra State due to his saving culture.

He said his administration emerged number one in education, health, and some key areas in the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by saving money to carry out key projects.

However, Okowa wasted no time to take a swipe at Obi’s position, saying there is too much scarcity of money hence no need to save but spend.

The Delta governor disagreed with Obi, saying that Nigeria cannot save when the country needs money for critical projects.

He said: “Nigeria cannot save any money when we need for investment, to create employment and ensure unemployed youths do not resort to insecurity.”

Obi Clash With Dino Melaye

After disagreeing with Okowa, Obi also engaged in a heated argument with the spokesman of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council, Dino Melaye, at the debate.

In a video on Sunday, the LP presidential candidate was seen exchanging words with Melaye, who was on the entourage of Governor Okowa.

During the event, Obi lost his cool after Melaye described his supporters as ‘noisemakers’ while interrupting the former Anambra State governor’s speech with snide remarks and gestures.

Obi said: “I won’t take this. That colonel is an NNPP person, and you’re saying it’s Obi People. Dino, please stop that!

“I have taken enough from you here. Why are you always calling me?”

This is coming at a time the former Kogi West Senator cautioned Nigerians against voting for Obi.

Melaye stressed that Obi would not win in 2023 because the ‘Euphoria’ surrounding his candidacy was gradually ‘dying’.
