Why Senegal Are Not World Cup Favourites - Mane

Bayern Munich player, Sadio Mane has opined that Senegal may not go too far in the coming 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Naija News recalls that Senegal defeated Egypt to win the last Africa Cup of Nations thanks to a crucial penalty kick from Mané.

However, the Teranga Lions of Senegal have won 13, drawn 5, and lost once out of their last 19 games.

The Senegal International believes his country will not be one of the contenders of the World Cup tournament in Qatar.

Aliou Cissé’s men reached the quarter finals in Korea/Japan 2002, which could be recorded as one of the team’s best performance in the world cup tournaments.

Mane cited France and Spain as the favourites for the tournament in Qatar in an interview with RMC Sport, saying, “I don’t see Senegal as a favourite because there are other nations very far ahead of Senegal like France, Spain.. We will go there with no cold and try to do what we have used to do.”

In 93 games for Senegal, the striker has scored 34 goals and in 10 Bundesliga games this season, he has five goals.

Senegal, who have qualified for three FIFA World Cups are in Group A with Qatar, Ecuador and the Netherlands.
