Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) has detained a staff of Desert Herald, a Kaduna-based publication.

Mubarak Tinja, a staff member of Desert Herald and also a younger brother to Ibrahim Tinja, who was arrested together with the publisher and his son, was detained after he was invited by the security operatives to retrieve phones and other devices confiscated from Tukur Mamu’s home on Thursday.

Family sources told Daily Trust that Tinja, who was accompanied to the Kaduna office of the DSS around 5pm by a friend, has been detained.

“The DSS went to the house and left a note for Mubarak Tinja to come to their office for the phones they confiscated and so he went with a friend. Sometime around 9pm, security agents asked his friend to return home and when he asked of Tinja, they said they were keeping him for questioning,” the source said.

Naija News earlier reported that the secret police raided the residence of Mamu, saying it recovered incriminating materials.

The spokesman of DSS, Peter Afunanya made this known to Daily Trust when asked about a raid carried out in the Kaduna house and office of Mamu in the hours of Thursday.

Speaking about the raid, DSS said so many incriminating things, including military accoutrements, large amounts of different currencies and denominations were recovered, saying the arrested publisher will be charged to court.

Arresting, Intimidating Mamu Is Also Terrorism – Gumi Slams DSS, Buhari’s Gov’t

Meanwhile, renowned Muslim cleric, Sheikh Abubakar Ahmad Gumi has slammed President Muhammadu Buhari’s government and the DSS for arresting his aide, Mallam Tukur Mamu.

The controversial cleric while delivering a sermon at the Sultan Bello Mosque on Saturday, said he had hoped that the incumbent government will finish their tenure successfully in the next few months.

Sheikh Gumi said Mamu’s arrest by the secret police is unfair and that he should be released or immediately taken to court, stating that keeping and intimidating him is also an act of terrorism by the security agency.

Speaking further, the cleric said the law provided that anybody arrested over an alleged crime should be taken to court within 24 hours.
