Chelsea has officially confirmed the signing of Graham Potter as the club’s new head coach.

The Premier League club announced on Thursday that the English tactician has penned a five-year contract with the Blues as a replacement for sacked German coach, Thomas Tuchel.

Naija News reports that Chelsea terminated its contract with Tuchel on Wednesday following a UEFA Champions League defeat to Dinamo Zagreb.

After hours of negotiations, Chelsea eventually settled for Potter who was until the latest development the head coach at Brighton.

Potter was said to have arrived at Chelsea’s training ground on Thursday afternoon to complete the signing of his contract.

“I am incredibly proud and excited to represent Chelea FC, this fantastic football club,” Potter said in a statement on the club’s website.

The 47-year-old English manager added: “I am very excited to partner with Chelsea’s new ownership group and look forward to meeting and working with the exciting group of players and to develop a team and culture that our amazing fans can be proud of.

“I would also like to place my sincere thanks to Brighton & Hove Albion for allowing me this opportunity and in particular Tony Bloom and all the players, staff and supporters for their continued support during my time at the club.”
